Six-Core AMD Opteron™ processors with AMD chipset

, Advanced Micro Devices official announced six-core Opteron chips, code-named Istanbul, it’s the fastest server chips.

AMD six-core processors include five Istanbul chips, Model Opteron 2400/8400, that run at speeds of up to 2.6GHz and draw up to 75 watts of power during average CPU usage. The chips will include 6MB of L3 cache and 512KB of L2 cache per core.

The six-core AMD Opteron Model 8435 runs at 2.6GHz and is priced at US$2,649. The Opteron Model 8431 runs at 2.4GHz and is priced at $2,149. In the 2000 series, the AMD Opteron Model 2435 runs at 2.6 GHz and is priced at $989, the 2.4GHz Opteron 2431 is priced at $698, the 2.2GHz Opteron 2427 is priced at $455.

Tomorrow’s designs delivered today
The Six-Core AMD Opteron™ processor with AMD chipset is AMD’s first server platform combining the CPU and chipset that gives system designers Hyper Transport™ 3.0 technology, PCI Express® 2.0 and new AMD Virtualization™ (AMD-V™) technology features such as IO-virtualization and

bridges Six-Core AMD Opteron™ processor with AMD chipset platform designs with AMD’s future platforms*.

Fast-track your designs: As an integrated server platform, the Six-Core AMD Opteron™ processor with AMD chipset enables the CPU, chipset, reference designs and technical information that can help you get to market faster and deliver server computing products with technology features on the leading edge

Multiply your bandwidth: Part of the AMD Direct Connect Architecture, the Six-Core AMD Opteron™ processor with AMD chipset delivers HyperTransport™ 3.0 technology speed between the processor and I/O, up to 4.8 GT/s, with support for PCI Express® 2.0 that can double the I/O bandwidth** compared to previous AMD Opteron™ processor chipset designs

Virtualize I/O more efficiently: The Six-Core AMD Opteron™ processor with AMD chipset includes I/O virtualization technology that isolates and separates virtual machines, enabling increased I/O performance through the support of direct device assignment. Improved address translation can reduce hypervisor intervention and increased security and efficiency throughout

Connect with tomorrow: The Six-Core AMD Opteron™ processor with AMD chipset supports today’s Quad-Core AMD Opteron™ (codename “Shanghai”) and Six-Core AMD Opteron (codename “Istanbul”) processors and prepares you with a proven chipset solution for G34 and C32 socket platforms designs of tomorrow*
