Facebook updates heading to Microsoft Bing

Unlike Twitter's data stream, which is already totally public, we have to be very careful about making sure the correct data is streamed.

Opening up the real-time update rivalry once again, Facebook has confirmed that public updates are to be streamed through Microsoft’s Bing search engine in just a matter of months.

The deal, which is set to launch in two months time, will let updates from Facebook users who have their privacy settings set to ‘everyone on the web’, be viewable through the Bing search engine.

All was confirmed by Facebook’s chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg who was speaking at a Web 2.0 conference in San Francisco.

On the issue of making the integration work properly Sandberg said, "Unlike Twitter’s data stream, which is already totally public, we have to be very careful about making sure the correct data is streamed.”

Ms Sandberg also announced that the data stream will not be an easy money spinner as some recent speculation had suggested, with no payment having been made for the deal.

With Twitter breathing down their social networking neck, Ms Sandberg illustrated the companys' continual strong presence in the market revealing that 45 million status updates are made per day on Facebook.

So will it be Twitter with its data stream partnerships with Microsoft and Google, or Facebook and its alliance with Bing that will be the true update champ? In the words of Harry Hill, there’s only one way to find out..
