Fujifilm Finepix S1500 Digital Camera Review

Posted by Dark Legion 11/06/2009 ,

Versatility and functionality are key in this compact 12x superzoom camera. Easily portable due to its small size and light weight, making it an ideal choice for days out with the family, weekends away, day-to-day photography or more advanced requirements. We love it for landscape work.

The Fujifilm Finepix S1500 is designed to be both sophisticated and straightforward in its use. CCD Shift Image Stabilisation keeps your images free from blur and the Scene Recognition (SR AUTO) feature lets the camera set itself the optimum mode depending on the subject being photographed. This combined with an advanced feature set (including a great 2cm macro mode) gives a complete camera package that's a joy to use.

10 Megapixel Resolution
For great levels of detail for sharp enlargements up to and beyond A3 size.

Large 12x Optical Zoom
Covers the equivalent of 33-396mm which will record everything from wide angle/ indoor shots to highly magnified telephoto and candid shots.

Instant Zoom
In this mode you can follow your suject at a wideangle setting where it is easy to track. Then when you're ready to shoot, the camera will instantly digitally zoom in (1.4x or 2x) and save the image.

Tracking Auto Focus
Keeps track of your subject while the shutter button is pressed halfway. Therefore your subject remains in focus for as long as it remains in the frame.

Panorama Shooting
In this mode you can shoot up to three consecutive photos and they can be stitched and saved together as a single panoramic image.

SR AUTO & Face Detection
These functions combine to form a formidable feature resource. "Scene Recognition Auto" chooses what kind of picture is being taken from the following options:
Portrait
Landscape
Night
Macro
Night Portrait
Backlit Portrait

It can then set the exposure and focus accordingly. The great advantage here is that Face Detection and Red Eye Removal are also used to get the best possible results.

Zoom Up and Trimming
The Zoom Up function can be used during playback to zoom in on a detected face while the Trimming function zooms in on a detected face and saves it as a cropped portrait photo.

CCD Shift Image Stabilisation
Used in combination with high ISO sensitivity (1600 at full resolution, 6400 at 3MP), blur is drastically reduced. For action shots, there is also a continuous shooting mode (6 shots at 3.3fps up to 5MP, 15 shots st 7.5fps up to 2MP).

Micro Thumbnail View
View all of your images at once in a 10x10 photo array so you can find any image in an instant. There is also a Dated Thumbnail View option and a Slideshow function for detected faces.

Shooting and Scene Modes
An intuitive Mode Dial allows selection of modes from Full Auto through Scene Position and Program/S/A/Manual modes to Custom, Movie and Panorama modes. If the Scene Position Mode is set then instead of the Scene Recognition function being used, you can choose the scene type being used. The options are:

Portrait, Sport, Night (Tripod), Fireworks, Snow, Museum, Flower, Landscape, Night, Natural Light, Sunset, Beach, Party, Text.
