Nokia cuts R&D workers

Posted by Dark Legion 11/30/2009 ,

Nokia has been under increasing pressure from competitors like Apple and others in the mobile phone market. Nokia is seeing its global share of the high-end smartphone and feature phone markets slip as competition increases.
Nokia has announced that it is streamlining its R&D operations. This streamlining means that Nokia is doing away with positions in R&D in several locations. In Finland Nokia is cutting up to 230 workers at its Oulu site. In Copenhagen, Denmark Nokia is also cutting another 100 workers totaling 2% of its global work force.

Nokia is also cutting R&D workers in Japan with about 220 workers being cut form R&D operations. These cuts represent another 1% of its global workforce. Nokia reports that the cuts will not affect its Nokia Siemens Networks or Vertu brands.
