WD 2TB Caviar Green with SATA 6Gb/s

Western Digital has begins production of their hard drive with SATA 6Gb/s (SATA 3.0) support. The SATA 3.0 interface is compared with SATA II would increase the throughput in half, from 3Gb/s to 6Gb/s. Specification of SATA 3.0 also includes improved power management and performance optimization technology for streaming data.


The first WD hard drive with SATA 3.0 support will be a new update of Caviar Green drive. The WD Caviar Green hard disk can hold up to 2TB capacity and buffer capacity of 32MB.

WD Caviar Green hard drive is used proprietary technologies such as IntelliPower, IntelliSeek and NoTouch. IntelliPower will optimizes spindle speeds ranging from 5400 rpm to 7200 rpm, providing power savings and improved performance. IntelliSeek technology determines the optimum seek speeds to lower noise and vibration. Finally, the NoTouch system is ensures contact of head with the surface of the disc.

The WD Caviar Green drives with SATA 3.0 interface is expected arrive on the market in the middle of January 2010 and an estimated price is 170 EUR.
